Educators need strategies to equip students with the core skills they need to think critically about today’s news and media. Join us as we look into how where we get our news can impact our perceptions; how we can use media as a tool and not something that uses us; and how we can support our school communities navigate a media-saturated world. We will take a dive into some of the latest research on how fake news may fool our students (and us) and explore four tips to promote a foundation of news and media literacy. Video Killed the Ditto Machine
Remember the smell of worksheets fresh from the ditto machine? Probably not because it’s an outdated way to deliver information.Today, our students access YouTube when they want to learn something. Video not only killed the radio star, it also changed the way people access information. Using video to learn is an effective tool for both teacher and student. Let’s learn how to use video for good!

Video is taking over how we communicate on billboards, computers, or mobile devices. And it’s not just the adults sharing the information. Students are creators too! During this workshop, we will share how to make and manage video in the classroom for both students and teachers. We will share tips and tricks to avoid pitfalls while enhancing the benefits of video with instruction. Plus, you’ll gain hands-on practice using various tools and programs that will help leverage video to move your instruction into hyper-drive. “We can’t rewind, we’ve gone too far” with digital learning to stop now.
